I was on the train the other day and there was this woman who came in with her 5-6 year old son.
When the trained was approaching Jurong East station, the boy ran back from all his monkeying around and asked his mother if they should be alighting. Apparently they would have to if they had wanted to go home.
The mother’s response?
“No need lah! You going home ah?! You want you go lah! Useless boy! Go lah!”
I was shocked! What kind of mother is this, calling her own son “useless” so loudly in front of everyone on the train?
Then the unthinkable happened.
The boy stared FIERCELY at his mother and about 2 seconds later raised his clenched fist as if he was going to punch her!
This whole incident was witnessed by an old man sitting next to the woman. When the boy realized that the old man has been watching him, he THREATHENED the man with the “want-to-fight” look and said, “What you looking at?!” TWICE!
Then he turned back to his mother, raised his fist one more time, before walking away sulking.
My reaction? Three words: I WAS STUNNED.
Nothing more, nothing less.
