Facts and Crises of Life

28 08 2006

Recently one of friends complained that she was suffering from a “quarter-life crisis”.

“What’s a quarter-life crisis?” we mused… Is it something half as bad as the more well-known “mid-life crisis”? If it is, then going into middle age is a really scary thought. But from an objective and holistic point of view, I reckoned that this is how we should define the 4 Quadrants of Life:

Quadrant #1: Quarter-Life Crisis At the quarter-life mark, we get troubled about having made no headway in life so far.

Quadrant #2: Mid-Life Crisis At the mid-life mark, we get troubled by having made some headway in life, only to realise it’s all been in the wrong direction.

Quadrant #3: Third-Quarter-Life Crisis At the three quarter mark, we get troubled at STILL being unable to get things right in life, despite knowing what went wrong since the last crisis 25 years back.

Quadrant #4: End-Life Crisis By the end of our lives, we look back before dying and say, “Darned, I should have done what I had wanted to do when I was at the first quarter mark…”
